🌸 Outdoor Things to Do for Mother’s Day in Northern Virginia (2026 Guide) 🌸
While I don’t want to jinx anything, Mother’s Day Weekend is shaping up to be pretty good weather-wise this year in Northern Virginia. While brunches are nice, nothing beats some great outdoor time with family to celebrate Mom’s special day.
If you’re looking for something fun to do with Mom this weekend, here’s a quick list of things you can take her and the family to in Northern Virginia (of course, make sure to check websites for hours and availability, I'm an imperfect human).
- 🌳 For those looking for something outdoor to do with lots of options for all ages, Burke Lake Park in Burke/Fairfax Station is a solid choice. There’s lots to choose from for every age group in your family; play on the multiple playgrounds with the kids, walk around scenic Burke Lake for a little exercise, or just find a nice spot for a picnic to park for a few hours.
- 🚶‍♀️ If you want to take it up a notch with the activity level, you could always bike or walk the W&OD Trail. Stretching over 40 miles through Northern Virginia towns like Vienna, Herndon, and Leesburg, the trail offers a smooth, scenic ride with plenty of spots to stop along the way for coffee, treats, or a casual picnic. This time of year, path is especially nice, with spring greenery in full bloom and comfortable temperatures for riding. This activity will surely make it a memorable day for Mom.
- 🍺 Looking for some more adult-themed fun? Then Eavesdrop Brewery in Yorkshire could be your Mother’s Day spot this year. Conveniently located between Centreville and Manassas, there’s plenty of outdoor seating with a wide selection of beers, wine, slushies, and other adult drinks to try (and food too). There will be live music and artisan shopping for Mom to sample on her special day so make sure to check it out.
- 📜 A little further out, George Washington's Mount Vernon in Alexandria offers a mix of history, beauty, and relaxation that feels both meaningful and memorable. The estate is especially stunning in May, with blooming gardens, riverfront views of the Potomac, and plenty of space to stroll at your own pace. You can tour the historic grounds, walk through the formal gardens, and even enjoy special seasonal programming that often takes place around Mother’s Day weekend.
- 🍷 Finally, for a more laid-back and social vibe, The Winery at Bull Run is a standout choice right in the heart of Northern Virginia in Centreville. Set against scenic farmland with views of historic battlefields, it offers a relaxed outdoor setting perfect for celebrating. A kid-friendly winery, families can bring a picnic, enjoy live music, and sip locally crafted wines while soaking in the spring weather.
